Development of fiber optic backlighting for medical fiber optic sheet membrane switch assemblies on IV infusion pumps. Uniglo medical fiber optics film technology is known for its design flexibility, fiber bending Bendio-Glo process, uniformity, thinness, and durability capabilities. A design challenge for this medical device was to provide backlighting for the medical fiber optic sheet membrane switch overlay, with a cutout for the LCD screen in the middle of the panel, while using a 5mm LED to backlight the entire assembly. medical fiber optic sheet panels with one LED are achieved by selectively extracting light only in specific areas that require backlighting, thus reducing the number of fiber optic bundles that are crimped within the panel's brass terminations. Once the main IV equipment pump is tested and certified, other hand-held remote controls for the IV pump also require a backlight, using a smaller fiber optic sheet medical backlight.
